The majority of research I do at Gloucestershire Archives involves searching the parish registers for baptisms, marriages and burials which took place in Anglican churches in the Diocese of Gloucester. Other useful sources at Gloucestershire Archives are non-conformist records, probate records (wills, etc), and poor law records. For family members who got into trouble with the law, there are gaol calendars, court records and prison registers, as well as newspaper reports.

Useful sources for finding out about the residents of a house, street or area are census returns, electoral registers, taxation records, trade directories, tithe and enclosure maps and property records.

I can carry out research for Gloucestershire or nationwide using resources available on the internet, such as the census (1841 to 1911) and the General Register Office Birth, Marriage and Death Indexes (1837-2005). I subscribe to Ancestry, Find My Past and Genes Reunited.

Do you have a will or other legal document which you are having difficulty reading? I am very familiar with old handwriting and legal jargon and can transcribe it for you, either sending you a summary of its contents or a word-by-word transcription.
